51/50 - A Chapman Film

51/50

Blake, a hopeless teenager struggling with suicidal ideation, voluntarily admits herself to the psychiatric ward for a 72-hour hold after attempting to kill herself. She is forced to come to terms with her past as her mind increasingly becomes detached from reality. With the help of a few fellow patients, and a kind and devoted nurse, Blake can finally learn to accept that she needs help…

51/50 - A beautifully psychological film, and the greatest introduction to working with Chapman University I could have possibly asked for

The director - Zoe Beleno - tackled such a harrowing and forlorn topic in a wonderfully empathetic way, especially in this time period where many of our peers still mock mental health issues, and insult those who seek help. Other than making sure the picture came out great, she and our producer - Luke Buchanan - were both amazing people to have on set! They kept the smiles up, while still keeping the cast and crew focused on bringing this vision to life!

Despite many of our crew mates coming from the same university, it was the social butterflies like LJ Shen Filerman who made sure we all connected as a team, to really bring together this bond that these teenagers formed in the facility. Thankfully, the cast was full of wonderful friends and actors… with all of these tools at hand, of course the final product came out as lovely as it did!

Not everyone is lucky to have a friend by their side. Like Blake, we must remember that...
